Band Director Tom Brown brings 35 years of teaching experience to Veterans High School.  Mr. Brown is in demand throughout the southeast as a band adjudicator and clinician.  He has judged marching bands in Georgia, Alabama and Florida.  He has judged concert bands in Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina.  He has been an Honor Band Clinician in Districts 1, 2, 10 and 13 for the Georgia Music Educators Association.  He has been the guest conductor for the Southeastern United States (SEUS) Concert Band Clinic Middle School Honor Band at Troy University and was the first High School Director ever invited to conduct one of the SEUS High School Honor Bands in 2010.  He has been listed in Who’s Who Among American Teachers and was the Jeff Davis County, GA 2007 Teacher of the Year.  He is a four-time recipient of the National Band Association Citation of Excellence.  In January 2009, he was named the GMEA State Music Educator of the Year.  He was elected by his peers to serve GMEA as Vice President for All-State Events for 2009-2011.  In the Spring of 2012, Mr. Brown was elected by the Directors in GMEA District 11 to be the Instrumental Chairman for 2 years.  In his 5th year at Veterans High School, Mr. Brown has seen consistent growth in the VHS band program, currently conducting 3 Concert Bands, the award winning Warhawk Squadron Marching Band, and the VHS Jazz Ensemble.



Jaimee Blanchett is in her 18th year as a band director. Under her direction bands have received Superior ratings at festival and contest.  Select students under her tutelage were accepted by New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and Georgia Music Educators Association to perform at county/district and regional level Honor Bands.  She has been an Honor Band Clinician in Districts 8 and 9 for the Georgia Music Educators Association.   Mrs. Blanchett earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree and Bible minor from Cedarville University, Master of Education degree from Cambridge College, and Educational Specialist degree in Curriculum and Administrative Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.  While at Cedarville University, she played tuba in the University Band, Brass Choir and Orchestra.  She studied tuba with Michael DiCuirci and Dr. Steven Winteregg.  Mrs. Blanchett’s professional affiliations include ITEA/TUBA, NAfME, GMEA, PAGE, GAE, NEA.  She has been recognized in the Who’s Who Among Teachers 2004, Who’s Who in Amercia 2006 and 2009- 2010 Congressional Youth Leadership Council as and Educational Leader and Mentor.   Mrs. Blanchett enjoys the outdoors, photography, and spending time with her husband, Lane, and their children Rachel, Wesley, Caleb and Claire. 


In addition to working at VHS, Ms. Blanchett will be assisting at Bonaire Middle School.



Percussion Instructor Miguel Castro Miguel studied music from 1977 to 1983 at the "Conservatorio Nacional de Música" in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic earning a Masters Degree in Music Performance. After that, he went to New York to study at Drummers Collective International in 1984-85 where he had the opportunity to study with some of the world's leading percussionists including Steve Gadd, Doug Allen, and Frank Malabé.


He served as Director of Percussion Studies at Mercer University in Macon for eight years. At the present time, he serves as Director of Percussion Studies and Jazz Band at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Georgia. Mr. Castro is also currently the Percussion Coordinator of the Houston County School System.

He is regularly in demand as a percussion clinician (Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Georgia Music Educators Association Conference, Georgia Percussive Arts Society Conference, Southeastern United States Band Clinic), adjudicator, composer, arranger and recording artist, maintaining a busy schedule in and outside of the United States.
